Mum’s Apple Crumble

Ingredients

For the Crumble topping:

  • 200 g plain flour
  • 150 g cold butter
  • 100 g caster sugar
  • 50 g brown sugar
  • 50 g rolled oats

For the Filling:

  • 5 bramley apples
  • 300 g Blackberrys
  • 1 orange
  • 60 g sugar
  • 20 g butter

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
  • Peel your apples, Cut into quarters and remove the core. Then roughly chop.
  • Add your 60g of sugar into a frying pan. Place on a medium heat until you have a dark caramel.
  • Add in 20g of butter and your apples. Cook down for 3-4 minutes.
  • Then add your Blackberrys, zest of 1 orange and a juice of half the orange. Cook down for a few minutes. Taste and season and then place into your ovenproof dish.
  • For the topping; add your plain flour and cold cube butter into a bowl. Rub the butter into the flour with you fingertips until it looks like breadcrumbs.
  • Add in both types of sugar and oats and mix to combine.
  • Add the crumble topping on top of the apple filling. Add a few thin slices of butter on top with a tablespoon of brown sugar on top. Sprinkle with a pinch of salt and bake in the oven for 40 minutes.
